Diffuser Blends
At the end of a long day, or heck, even at the beginning of the day we sometimes need to de-stress and assist our bodies with relaxation.
Sometimes we turn to breathing exercises, meditation practice, or gentle stretching to unwind our overly stressed and scurried minds. Other times we look for outside help and enjoy some nice soothing smells to help us settle in. Having a diffuser with some essential oils handy is a great way to take the edge off, de-stress and is also an excellent complement to our breathing and meditation practices.
Always look for good quality essential oils to add to your diffuser. Chemical fragrances are not your friend but essential oils are healing and safe for your smelling pleasures.

The Low Down on Chemical Fragrances
Chemical fragrances are put into so many products simply because they are cheap, cheap, cheap to produce. Companies know that we all like nice-smelling things. But just because it may smell nice doesn’t mean that it’s good for us to be inhaling. Also, when you see “fragrance” on the label of a product it can mean up to 3000 different chemical substances, none of which are good for you. And they are absorbed straight into your bloodstream.
Fake fragrances in all products are dangerous to your body. Therefore, many people report adverse reactions to fragrances. For instance, problems can include respiratory problems, migraine headaches, asthma attacks, skin irritations, neurological & cognitive problems, and even gastrointestinal issues. It stresses me out just thinking about it!
A few of the chemicals in fragrances are:
- Styrene– A possible carcinogen and endocrine disruptor. Toxic the central nervous system when inhaled and causes toxicity to the liver.
- Formaldehyde– Banned in Japan and Sweden for use in cosmetics and toiletries. Also a known human carcinogen.
- Oxybenzone (BP-3)- Toxic to liver cells.
- Chloromethane– Wrecks havoc on the nervous system and is toxic to the liver, kidneys, and skin.
- Propyl Paraben– Linked to breast cancer.
- Resorcinol– Has a negative impact on the cardiovascular and nervous systems and has shown changes to kidney, liver, and spleen function.
These are but a few of the nasty chemicals that can be found in the blanketed term “fragrance”. Like I said earlier, up to 3000.
There are many amazing products available today that are eco-conscience and better choices for the health of your family. So definitely explore the world of essential oils. Adding a few drops of your favorite essential oils to your homemade cleaning solutions and diffusing them into the air combats germs and adds a healthy fragrance as well.
Diffusers are readily available on Amazon.com or in health food stores. Just find one that you like in your price range. I find that having a diffuser in my workspace helps me to stay focused on my work and reduces my stress as well.
