We live in a time where we are increasingly disconnected from the healing properties of the earth’s energy. Our indoor lifestyle keeps us separated from nature and this separation could be a huge factor in some of the ailments we are plagued with. Enter grounding.. because the earth provides powerful electrons that are beneficial to balancing our systems. Research is now confirming that we are electrical creatures living on an electrical planet and there needs to be the connection of the two to balance and heal the body.
So when was the last time you walked barefoot in the grass? Or on the beach? Do you remember the sense of calm you experienced during and after your barefoot wanderings? I know I do. Improved Sleep
It turns out that when we are grounded with the earth’s flow it balances and regulates our circadian rhythms. When our bodies are not in line with the natural rhythms of the earth, darkness, and light, we can experience tossing and turning resulting in raised cortisol levels, increasing inflammation in the body. Sleeping on a grounding mattress or sheet helps to regulate our rhythms resulting in more restful sleep and increased energy during the day.
Reduces Stress
Increasing our time spent in nature and connecting with the earth’s powerful forces can dramatically decrease the negative effects of stress. Chronic stress can result in a lower quality of life at best and chronic disease at worst. Earthing/grounding increases your heart rate variability which is determinate in how your heart responds to stress in a healthy way. Earthing can potentially balance the nervous system and support heart health.
Reduces Inflammation
Earthing and absorbing the electrons of the earth can assist with neutralizing free radicals helping to reduce chronic inflammation. Earthing improves circulation in the body allowing for better nutrient absorption and better waste and toxin elimination. Chronic inflammation wrecks havoc on our population and burdens our healthcare system. The simple act of grounding the body can go a long way towards alleviating many of today’s burdens, both societal and individual.
Increases Energy
Because being grounded improves circulation, balances circadian rhythms, and improves your sleep, you can expect to have increased energy during the day. So many people suffer from low-grade fatigue these days. It can send us running to the vending machine in the afternoon for unhealthy high sugar snacks or to the coffee pot for a shot of caffeine to help us through, setting us up for a trip on the hamster wheel of bad habits. It stands to reason that healthy REM sleep and good circulation will keep our energy stores regulated throughout the day. Sounds pretty good, right?
Lowers Pain
We already talked about how grounding technology reduces inflammation. And this is precisely the reason that you’ll notice a marked reduction in the pain you’ve been experiencing. Grounding helps the body to reduce the number of white blood cells in the blood which in turn significantly reduces inflammation and lowers the pain response.
How to Incorporate More Earth Energy Into Your Life
Walking Barefoot on the grass or on the beach is a great way to absorb the earth’s magic. Cement is also a good conductor of earth energy so if it’s not too hot or too cold walking on the sidewalk barefoot will do the trick. If having your feet bare on the ground isn’t your thing you can try leather moccasins.
I have a pair that I just love for walking in nature when it’s a little cold out. You can also do your gardening, walk to the mailbox, etc. while connecting to the earth’s life force. The best charge you can get is in the morning when the grass is damp from the previous nights’ dew. The moisture amplifies the earth’s electrical current.
Earthing Products for Indoor Use – How They Work
There are several products you can buy to get grounded while inside your home or office. These products have silver wires incorporated into their design which act as conductors for grounding. There is a cord attachment that can be plugged into the third prong of a 3 prong electrical outlet. This is the grounding port.
I have a grounding mat on my desk for when I’m working on my computer. It helps with reducing the negative effects of electromagnetic field exposure.
I also use a half sheet for sleeping. I’m thinking about getting a full sheet as well to ground my husband too!

The best part is that really, none of these products are mandatory to get grounded with the earth. But I guess sometimes we all need a little help, especially with the prevalence of indoor work and indoor activities these days. What I’ve heard from folks that have tried grounding is a noticeable sense of “feeling better”. Maybe you will too!
