How to Improve Blood Circulation With Natures Herbal Heroes

Are you sometimes feeling cold? It could be that your blood isn’t circulating as well as it should. Healthy blood circulation is paramount to good health. Reason being, every little vessel in your body needs a good supply of healthy blood to function optimally. If your blood is thick and sticky it will have a hard time flowing around, offering oxygen and nutrients to all your organs and cells. Perhaps you’re finding that you have high blood pressure, have some brain fog or are feeling cold. If so you may need to look at ways to optimize your blood flow. Get that circulation flowing.

For Good Blood Circulation Drink More Water!

For Good Blood Circulation Drink More Water!

First and foremost take an accounting of your water intake. This could very well be at the top of the chart of easy ways to increase blood circulation. Drinking lots of pure clean water can help thin your blood so it has an easier time getting around. However, make sure you filter your water. Fluoride and chlorine wreak havoc on your body and brain so get the purest water you can find. Also avoid plastic bottles. Pop on over here if you want to find out more about plastics.

Try to get about half your weight in ounces a day by drinking clean water or herbal teas. Also remember that alcohol is dehydrating so on the occasions you choose to imbibe drink 2 glasses of water for every alcoholic drink you consume. Additionally wash down a couple milk thistle capsules with it to keep your liver happy. Alcohol is not your liver’s friend and milk thistle helps to detoxify your liver.

Get Some Exercise to Get Your Blood Circulating!

Exercise is great for circulation, with bouncing being one of the best!

Another way to promote healthy circulation is to get some exercise. Shoot for a 30 minute walk every day. For instance, walking and hiking are easy ways to get your body moving and get your blood flowing. Furthermore moving your body is good for keeping your lymphatic system healthy. Because your lymphatic system doesn’t have a heart to pump it, it relies solely on you moving around to keep it moving. A great exercise for pumping your blood and lymph fluids is rebounding. And an added bonus is that bouncing on a mini trampoline works every muscle in your body.

Extra water and movement are two easy ways to promote healthy circulation. Now I want to tell you about some herbal remedies that are very beneficial for circulation as well.

A few lifestyle and herbal additions will get your blood circulating well!

Herbs for Increased Circulation

Gingko Biloba Increases Circulation

Gingko Biloba is commonly used for increasing and improving memory because gingko helps increase blood flow to the brain. Additionally, it’s important to note, Gingko increases healthy blood flow throughout your body. A 2018 study found that: “EGb 761 is a standardized natural extract from Gingko Biloba leaf that has shown neuroprotective effects after ischemic stroke.” (1) It stands to reason that if Gingko Biloba has the ability to increase circulation in the brain it can increase circulation body wide. Interestingly, Gingko has a reputation for increasing blood flow to the genitals, enhancing sexual performance and pleasure. A nice little side note for all you floundering Cassanova’s out there.

Pycnogenol aka Pine Bark Extract

Pycnogenol is the official name for the product derived from the pine bark of the Pinus Pinaster tree. A 2018 study was conducted to determine the ability of Pycnogenol to aide in the prevention of recurrent venous thrombosis and post-thrombotic syndrome. It was found that “Pycnogenol® is most effective and safe for requiring anticoagulants (R-DVT) and particularly post-thrombotic syndrome (PTS).”(2) In layman terms, pine bark extract has the ability to reduce plaques in the bloodstream and assist with healthy blood circulation.

Better Blood Circulation With Hawthorn Berry

Hawthorn berry is a favorite of herbalists and is being closely looked at favorably, in clinical trials, focusing primarily on its positive effects for cardiovascular disease. Research suggests hawthorn may be a safe, effective and nontoxic agent in the treatment of cardiovascular disease and ischemic heart disease. Hawthorn has been shown to prevent dizziness rather than increasing it, as many of the pharmaceuticals prescribed for cardiovascular troubles tend to do.

There have also been little or no known signs of toxicity when using hawthorn. It can even be safely used during pregnancy. (I do, however, always recommend talking with a qualified herbalist before taking any herbal remedies during pregnancy.) No issues have been noted with Hawthorn berry having adverse drug interactions in studies conducted to date. In other words, Hawthorn berry has an excellent safety profile. Hence it can be a safe and effective non-toxic remedy for improving circulation and helping your body cope with cardiovascular disease.(3)

Horse Chestnut Helps Painful Leg Veins

Horse Chestnut has long been used as a treatment for the relief of painful leg veins. The medicine comes from the seeds and it’s important to note that horse chestnut absolutely must be processed properly for safe use. Therefore only purchase horse chestnut from a reputable source. Escin is the active ingredient in horse chestnut. Its main use is combating chronic venous insufficiency which is a vascular condition. For this reason, using a cream made with horse chestnut along with butcher’s broom gives relief for painful varicose veins.

Ginger Root Relaxes Arteries for Healthy Circulation

Ginger is well known for its ability to ease nausea and calm stomach upset. But did you know that it is a good vasodilator? For instance, it induces relaxation of coronary arteries promoting healthy circulation. A 2018 study indicates that ginger extracts have the ability to exert marked vasoprotective effects. Ginger extract also contains powerful antioxidant properties allowing it to scavenge free radicals that can wreak havoc on your body. (4) Additionally ginger is a vasodilator opening blood vessels to allow more blood to pass through arteries and veins.

Ginger Tea

Make a delicious tea with a few circulation enhancing herbs!

  • 1-inch knob of fresh ginger root, grated or sliced thin
  • 16 oz boiling water
  • Honey or Stevia to taste (optional)

Boil some filtered water and pour over the grated/sliced ginger root. Allow to steep for 5-7 minutes and enjoy.
